Could be moving into the Chesapeake or further north?

Well, yes I have been doing some avid beachcombing lately. To me it is better
than yoga for relaxation. Gives great exercise and you can find interesting things
(interesting things to me anyway) Yeah that's right, I am easily entertained.
A piece of rope in the sand, shells with strange shapes and colors....that's all
I need man to amuse myself for a while.

Hi Rocko,

Nice blog. Do you plan to sail to the Bahamas or Dry Tortugas in the near future?

Perhaps!

I would like very much to go to the Bahamas this winter if possible.

Whereabouts do you sail Barry?

Rocko

Hey Rocko,

I've got a Pearson Commander 26', with a 5hp in a motor well.
She's anchored at Watson Island right now in Miami, you probably know where that is.
So far I've only sailed to Marathon a few times.
My plan is thusly: Gotta do some work on her for a few more weeks, then a shakedown cruise. Idealy to the Marquesas. Hurricanes permitting. And then to the Bahamas as soon as possible.
Do you feel like you're in a better Hurricane spot up there than down this way? Right now I feel like a sitting duck in Miami. I want to get the boat together and get out of here before a storm comes.

Hi Barry,

Well, the place I'm in now has much less history of taking hurricane hits but still not safe. Savannah get's slammed every so often. But still feel slightly safer here. No place to really hide though except running straight up the Savannah River as far as I could get. I don't know if even that would work.

Tough to say where to hide in Miami. I think if I couldn't haul her out then I would run up to the Canals of Fort Lauderdale. Theatw where several freinds of mine survived Hurricanes Jean and Francesse when they came ashore in Port Salerno. I lost my Morgan 28 in Jeanne while she was on anchor just off of Singer Island. Thought that was safe enough....NOT.

I understand that tying off to and anchoriun up in mangroves are a way that many survived Jeanne and they were even further north than I was.

Marquesas sound like fun. I have never had my boat further south than Key Largo. But have always wanted to see the Marquesas and Dry Tortugas. Probably a more afordable option than Bahamas!
